TIMBER GROWS AT ASHMEAD! 
We are pleased to announce the installation of new timber storage racking in Avonmouth, this work was carried out over the Christmas week. 
 
The new racking enables us to extend the range of carcassing timber that we stock in response to an increasing demand for the supply of quality timber at a fair price. 
Willand depot stocks large quantities of sawn and treated carcassing.

Mark Eminson has been appointed Avonmouth branch manager as of 1st September 2011, taking over from Ben Self, who has run the branch for many years. 
 
Ben Self is continuing in his role as Director and will be concentrating on sales development as well as assisting Mark and his team.

Willand branch assistant Manager Catherine Hoaken has scooped the 2011 "Achiever of the Year" award at a prestigious Trade event held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. The award was presented by Lawrence Dallaglio seen in the photo with Andrew Williamson, Director of IKO Plc. 
TRUCKIN' BIG PIPES! 
 
Ashmead's Willand branch recently secured yet another cracking order of 600mm diameter pipes, which were delivered on their new 18 tonne Mercedes Axor to a customer in Wiltshire.  
FAREWELL, JOHN! 
Our longest serving member of staff finally hung up his hi-vis jacket on Friday 8th July. 
Avonmouth Yard supervisor John Morgan retired after over 30 years with Ashmead. Customers and staff will miss his helpful ways and cheery smile.

Our MD Tony Swain has just been appointed to the management committee of h&b.

GOODBYE CLAY PIPES! 
After more than twenty-five years of being major stockists of Naylor clay pipes we are saying goodbye to clay. As the market has changed, clay pipes are less in demand, and our business has developed in other areas - especially timber & aggregates. Our stocks havel been returned to Naylors and replaced with their range of plastic pipes - so our long relationship with Naylors will continue. We will still be able to obtain clay pipes to order and will continue to stock a good range of adaptors, connectors and ancilliary items. (Dec 09)

WESTERN BUILDERS MERCHANTS 
Since it's establishment in 1979, Ashmead has been a member of Westcountry buying society WBM. With changes in the industry, WBM merged with the h&b buying group in 2008, and has now (Nov 09) closed as a separate entity. We'd like to thank all their staff - especially former Director & Secretary Elizabeth Harman - for all their hard work over many years helping us & the other members. Thank you!

In March 2008 we joined the h&b buying group as it's 31st member. Since then membership has increased to nearly 70. All members are independent builders merchants - not owned by national or international companies. At Ashmead we value membership as it helps us buy better - so that we can pass savings on to our customers - and so remain competitive in the current market conditions.  
h&b is run by it's merchant members, carefully overseen by the estimable Martin Mansfield who is based at the BRE at Garston (type h& b buying group into Google for more info). The h&b Chairman is Peter Buttle of Buttle Plc, much respected for his long merchanting experience.
